16 Dec 07 (38)

The Team along with its 4 Search Dog Teams were called at 1700hrs to Poundstock to assist Cornwall SRT in the search for a 15 year old male (See incidents 29 & 32). Due to the rapidly dropping temperature and large search area we had assistance from HM Coastguard, Devon and Cornwall Police and Oscar 99.The high probability areas were quickly covered and the misper was located up a tree near a small river. He was evacuated back to the RV by CSRT Land rover and was treated on scene by our Team medics and Doctor for minor injuries. This was yet again a good example of the close working relations enjoyed between CSRT and DSRT (TAVISTOCK). – More Info

1 DSRT (TAVISTOCK) Search Dog Team was deployed to St Dennis to assist CORNWALL SRT in the search for a 52 year old male who was blind. Some belongings of the mispers had been located on the track leading towards the clay pits. The Dog Team searched around the clay pit spoils in foul weather conditions. They were eventually stood down and police enquiries are ongoing.

23 Nov 07 (36)

The Team was called out late in the evening along with DSRT (PLYMOUTH) to Yar Tor Down to search for a 55 year old male despondent from the Durham area. As Team members arrived on scene and were preparing to deploy, Devon and Cornwall’s Police helicopter located the misper approx 1K away near the river Dart. The misper was treated on scene by South Western Ambulance Service Trust before being handed over to the police.

Whilst attending a national training weekend on Saddleworth Moor, 3 DSRT (TAVISTOCK) Search Dog Teams were requested to assist in the search for a despondent male in the Delamere woods area of Cheshire. The vehicle belonging to the misper was located in a car park near to the search area. They were stood down at approx 2000hrs following searches of woodland with nothing found. Newspaper report.

Our Search Dog Teams received a standby request from DSRT (ASHBURTON) to assist in the search for a missing male in the Newton Abbot area. Due to their deployment on a training weekend they were unable to attend. This is listed for information only and is not classed as a callout.

9 Nov 07

Our Search Dog Teams were requested to attend an incident at Tresillian, Nr Truro to assist Cornwall SRT in the search for a missing male. Due to their deployment on a training weekend they were unable to attend. This is listed for information only and is not classed as a callout.

04 Nov 07 (34)

Whilst on their way back from the incident below, Our Search dog teams were contacted by Cornwall SRT and asked to assist in the search for an injured male in the Troon area of Camborne. The casualty had called police stating he had injured himself in a field but was unsure of the exact location. Our Dog Teams were only a couple of miles away and were on scene within 10mins. Just as they were about to deploy the casualty was located by a Police dog handler.

During their weekly Sunday training our Search Dog teams were requested to attend a search in the Helston area. Cornwall SRT was searching for a missing dog walker who had not been seen for a couple of days. We dispatched 2 Search Dog teams along with a Team member as navigator to a location near RNAS Culdrose. As they began their areas the misper was found wandering past search control. He was checked over by CSRT members before being handed over to the police. Also involved were HM Coastguard and RN SAR Sea King from Culdrose (A mere 1 min flying time from their base!!)

All four DSRT (TAVISTOCK) Search Dog Teams along with Team members as navigators were tasked to assist in the search for a 15year old male missing in the Poundstock area of Bude. As Teams were on route to the location they were stood down due to the misper being located by the police.

19 Oct 07 (31)

Whilst attending a SARDA national assessment weekend in South Wales one of our Search Dog teams was requested to assist in the search for a missing walker in the Storey Arms area. Search Dog Matt along with Trainee handler Jamie as his navigator were tasked to search a series of tracks leading up to Corn Du. From there they searched Pen y Fan and Cribyn before searching down the Bryn Teg ridge towards Brecon. After about 6 hours they were stood down by the local team. The search resumed at first light with SARDA (SOUTH WALES) dogs and local MRT’s. The Walker was located alive and well at around lunchtime, approx 4k outside of the search area. Also involved were Brecon and Central Beacons MRT’s, SARDA (SOUTH WALES) Search dogs,SARDA (ENGLAND) Search dogs from Edale MRT, RAF Search and Rescue Sea king from RMB Chivenor and a police helicopter from the local constabulary.

13 Oct 07 (30)

During the early hours we were requested by DSRT (PLYMOUTH) to deploy our vehicles and a Search manager to an incident that they were on route to in the Cadover Bridge area. We also deployed one of our Search Dog Teams, with a DSRT (TAVISTOCK) Team member as navigator to assist in the Search. The callout revolved around trying to locate a 25 Year Old male who was believed to be despondent and had fled from the scene of a RTC onto surrounding moorland. Team members were stood down at approx 0500hrs with nothing found.

06 October 07 (29)

3 of our Search Dog Teams along with a team navigator were requested by Cornwall Search and Rescue Team to assist in the Search for a missing 15 year old boy in the Bude area of Cornwall. Just as the Dogs arrived on scene a member of the public notified CSRT that they had just seen the misper close to their house. He was located by a CSRT foot team just as our Search dogs were deploying.

11 Sept 07 (28)

The Team was called out to the Buckland Abbey area at approx 2200hrs to search for an missing 69yr old female who had not been seen since the previous evening. The Team searched the grounds and woodland around Buckland Abbey. The lady was eventually located by a Foot Team on the banks of the river safe and well at 0900hrs the following morning. She was transported back to the RV and received medical treatment from Team Personnel. Also assisting us were members of DSRT’s Plymouth and Ashburton.

2 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Teams were called to assist Cornwall SRT in a search for a 52 year old man missing from home, in the Porkellis area near Helston. He was found after 7 hours of searching by CSRT members collapsed, hypothermic and with back pain. He was then taken to Hospital by CSRT Land Rover.

05 Aug 07 (26)
The Team was called out at 2300hrs to search for a missing 84yr old male suffering from Alzheimer’s. He had last been seen in the Albaston area. 4 DSRT (Tavistock) and 4 SARDA England Search Dog Teams along with a SARDA Wales Trailing Dog Team were deployed to assist in the search. The search carried on throughout the following day. He was found cold with cuts and bruising after more than 18 hours of searching. Also involved were DSRT’S Okehampton, Plymouth and Ashburton, Cornwall SRT, 2x HM Coastguard teams, Cornwall Fire & Rescue and six Devon & Cornwall Police Dogs.

1 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Team was called by Dartmoor SRT Okehampton to assist in the search for a 61 year old lady missing in the Sourton Tor area. She was located cold and wet by DSRT Okehampton Foot Team.

Team Members along with 3 Search Dog Teams, were called in the early hours, to the Gutter Tor area to assist in the search for 5 Duke of Edinburgh expedition teenagers who had not reached their overnight camping location. Teenagers located safe and well, if not a little surprised camped by a stream by a four man Foot Team at approx 0530 hrs.

Team Members were put on standby after a tent, personal and camping gear had been found with no one about. Stood down due to ongoing police enquiries.

Team Members along with 3 Search Dog Teams were called to assist in a search for a group of overdue walkers near Peter Tavy, Dartmoor. Team stood down on route when the group found their way back to their accommodation

1 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Team was requested to assist in the search of an area in North Devon for a missing male after inquires with Interpol came up negative; two dogs were tasked by Police to resume the search from the previous day. Nothing found, search ongoing.

30 June 07 (20)
Team Members and 3 Search Dog Teams were tasked to search for a woman walking her dog on Dartmoor in the Gutter Tor area when very thick mist descended causing her to be misplaced. After the search manager had spoken to the woman on the telephone it was decided to send a Search Dog Team to Fox Tor were they found the woman and her dog, safe and well. With the assistance of six Team Members the woman and her dog were walked to nearest road head and recovered by police and team Land Rovers.

09 June 07 (19)

Search Dog Teams were called to assist in a search that was underway in Okehampton. As the teams were on their way to the RV they were stood down due to the misper being located.

1 DSRT (TAVISTOCK) Search Dog team along with a team member as navigator was requested to assist CSRT in a search for a missing male in the Bude area. Our Dog Team searched a large woodland area. The search was stood down with nothing found.

Whilst attending a SARDA national training weekend in South Wales 2 of our Search Dog Teams were requested to assist local teams in a search on the Brecon Beacons. As more details were being gathered the misper turned up outside the proposed search area.

1 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Team was called to search for a 3 year old boy reported missing by 8yr old boy. He had last been seen at top of a building site, which had been searched by Police Dogs, whilst the surrounding area was searched by Okehampton team and SARDA Dogs. Search terminated after thorough search of large area and no further reports of missing child by parents

Team Members provided support and assistance to help with the search and evacuation of children on the Ten Tors expedition which was cancelled due to poor weather.

4 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Teams with navigators from DSRT (Tavistock), Cornwall SRT, Central Brecon Beacon MRT and Exmoor SRT were called to assist Exmoor SRT to search for three children aged 10 – 12 missing when playing hide and seek. They had got stuck in very dense undergrowth and were not able to get back. One of the teams’ Search Dogs along with an Exmoor SRT Search Dog indicated at the same spot but were unable to locate because of the dense undergrowth. At 0545hrs when the helicopter went to refuel the children were heard to shout for help. Members of Exmoor SRT located the children cold and wet 300 meters from where the dogs had indicated previously. The Search Dog Teams eventually returned to assist in the safety cover for Ten Tors, which had started two hours earlier.

All 4 of our Search Dog Teams were requested to assist DSRT (Okehampton) on a search in the Okehampton area. Whilst they were on route they were stood down due to the misper being located.

Our Search Dog Teams were placed on standby to assist Exmoor SRT on a callout in the Taunton area. As our Teams were on route they were stood down due to the misper being located.

Team Members along with 4 Search Dog Teams were called at 2200hrs to search for a man who had been wild camping on Dartmoor . He had telephoned the police stating, that he was lost and his tent was disintegrating because of the weather. Found at 0030hrs safe but cold and wet by members of the Hasty Team. He was accompanied back to the RV.

2 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Teams were called at 1000hrs to assist Cornwall SRT to search for a missing mountain biker near Penzance . He was seen the previous day by a farmer and his bike was found later that day. Farmer telephoned the police to advise that the bike was still there on Monday morning, stood down at 1900hrs with nothing found.

1 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Team was called at 1500hrs to assist Cornwall SRT in the search for a 76yr old male missing from home over night in St Keverne, Cornwall. Search terminated without a find at midnight

04 Mar 07 SWERA (8)
Whilst walking back from the previous callout the Team were tasked to search for an other team reported down not far from the location of the first callout. As the team decided on its search strategy they were found and evacuated by the helicopter after it had dropped the first team at Plymouth hospital.

Team Members were called at approx 1300hrs to the Postbridge area to search for a team of 8 15/16 year olds who had telephoned the Police stating the one of their team had fallen and injured his leg. Hasty Team Members were tasked to search and pinpoint the position. The injured people were evacuated to hospital by RAF Rescue Helicopter following medical treatment from Team personnel.

3 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Teams were called to assist Dartmoor SRT Okehampton to search for a missing 77 year old gent missing from home near North Tawton. Dogs stood down on route when the body of a elderly gent was found by Devon Fire & rescue crew using thermal imaging equipment.

10 February 2007 SWERA (5)

The Team were called out to search for a group of Ten Tors trainees who had reported to the Police that one of their party had fallen and broke her ankle. She was found and airlifted to hospital by the Devon Air Ambulance.

27 January 07 (4)
2 DSRT (Tavistock) Search Dog Teams were called to assist Cornwall SRT to search for a 46 year old male with mental health problems, it was reported to the Police that he had been living rough in woodland, found safe but cold by members of Cornwall SRT 10 minutes in to the search.

21 January 07 (3)

Team members were called out in the early hours to assist DSRT (ASHBURTON) in a search of River Dart Country Park. A young male had gone missing following an argument with friends. Due to the weather and the inebriated state of the misper we quickly deployed Teams to search the grounds. Following nearly 7hours of searching the misper was located safe and well by DSRT Land Rover approx 4k outside the search area.

13 January 07 (2)
The Team was called at 1800hrs to assist in a search for a group of eight, reported overdue from a walk in the Beardown Tor area. The group walked in to a local farm just as the teams were being deployed.

06 January 07 (1)
Team Members were called to search for 10 missing 13 year olds from a Ten Tors training group. The group had got into difficulties when they were unable to cross a swollen river in the Tavy Cleave and then became benighted. They were located by a Foot Team cold and wet. They were assisted off the moor back to the RV and some very grateful parents.
