Dartmoor is a vast and beautiful wilderness, enjoyed by thousands of visitors and locals each year. However, Dartmoor can be a very dangerous place too and that is why our team of highly trained volunteers are on call 24 hours a day, 365 days of the year, ready to help whenever needed.
The Dartmoor Search and Rescue Team (Tavistock) is one of four teams that make up the Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group under the umbrella of Mountain Rescue England and Wales, and each one is an individual registered charity, Tavistock’s being No. 1106094.
Each team is responsible for its own fund raising, and all are totally reliant on the goodwill of the public to keep the team operational by their kind and generous donations.
We are called out by the Police, and our role is to assist them and other emergency services in searching for missing and injured people, however we receive no Government funding. All the fundraising is done by the team in their own time, along with a very busy weekly training programme and actual call-outs.
It costs at least £20,000 per year to keep the team ready and operational, with money needed for, amongst other things, the upkeep of vehicles, equipment, rentals and training.
Funds are raised in a variety of ways, including active fundraising, collecting tins, talks, local events, generous donations and grants when available. This is a continual ongoing side to the team’s main role, so please click on the link below if you would like to help raise much needed funds for our team.
